We are almost 2 years into this process you guys!! Bah. I cannot believe it has taken us THIS LONG. At the start of all of this I thought that we would be into it only a year. Just goes to show how naive I was about some of this process. So, hoping to shed a little light on the situation for you!
In the last 2 years what have we accomplished?
- Finding our Lot
- Purchasing our Lot
- Hired a draftsman to create blueprints of our plans (This portion took almost 6 months!)
- Hired an engineer to engineer the plans
- Take plans to city to have everything cleared
- Apply for a construction loan with the bank
- Hired a Contractor to sign on with us to 4-way
- Dug our hole
- Set footings
- Poured foundation
- Laid Radiant Floor heating
- Poured Cement flooring (This was because we are “building on slab”)
- Framing
- Windows Installed
- Roof Shingles Laid
- Electrical
- Rough Plumbing
- Gas Lines are run
- Brick (can we count it to be done? haha. We are so close!)
- Wrapping the house in Tyvek
- Siding is in the works
- Trim around Exterior windows
- Wiring for our security system
- Fireplace Install
- HVAC
- 4-way Inspection
- Insulation
- Sheet Rock
- Mud & Tape
- Paint Interior
- Paint Exterior
- Install all flooring
- Tiling in bathrooms
- Install bathtubs, sinks, toilets, faucets
- Install Doors
- Interior Trim
- Countertops
- Install Cabinets
- Pour Driveway
- Porch Flooring
- Porch Columns
- Garage Doors
- Vents and Outlets
- Hardware
- And honestly I’m sure there is more! The finishing details really add up.
So where does that leave us with our timeline?! Do we have another 2 years on our hands? Ha. Well, let’s pray to the high heavens that we don’t! We are hoping to actually be in by the end of November. Putting it out into the universe right now! That means we have just over 2 months to finish to meet that timeline! We are going to push really hard to make it work.
You have to realize that up to this point a lot of the beginning work of drawing out our own plans and then working with the bank on a construction loan was A LOT OF WAITING. Things went slower then snail pace. Then once we started to actually begin the building house portion we notched up the pace to snail speed. Haha. This is where Erick and others put in a lot of there own time and labor to do a lot of this portion of the house. Meaning that the only time the house was worked on was after their own 8-5 work day or weekends. NOW. We are finally getting to the point where we will be hiring out a lot of the remainder of work. So let’s pick this pace up! I don’t say that lightly though, and I have to be careful. Because I don’t want anyone to get the wrong impression of how grateful I am to Erick and those others that have been putting in their blood, sweat and tears into our home. It has allowed us to do way more with our house than I really ever thought. But, mama is ready to get her babies into that home and it’s the home stretch now. So pray that November is our lucky month.
